So in such an artsy town is expected to have a few coffee houses, after the developers broad down the famous Karma Cafe right in UNT campus, there’s no place for smokers during the winter times, there’s no solution to the pollution other than outdoors.
Chinese chimneys like myself end up retreating to downtown square, where small business owners open their doors to the variety of random people cruising this town. In such small community is not rear to see a friend twice a day without any planning, pull a chair, some coffee and chill even with 20 degrees outside.
We all now the existence of the mayor coffee house chain in the states, but really $4.00 for a small latte, $2.00 for a drip is just not right during recession times or any other times, considering the amount of profitability; in the end of the day you are paying for a name, not quality not matter what they said.
A friend of mine, a small business owner point something crucial, I rather expend $20 bucks in a small burger joint for a small meal, than going for a complete meal to chili’s, I laugh and agree.
The same concept applys to coffee houses around town, and yes some are more hip than others or quiet or made for the student population, and yes sometimes is like walking to the library; but have something in common, interaction and better sense of customer service, because is not only a job, looks like they actually care having fun.
So please check some places out,
here’s a small list of good coffee joints.
Jupiter House located on Denton square, good customer service if your friend is not on the other side of the bar, perfect for family Saturday mornings, a lot of traffic, old crowds, students, funky people and awesome owners, brick walls for amazing constant exhibition of art and still pretty good coffee blends.
The Hydrant located on Oak street a block away from Denton Square, the place for the reader, the student, charming and comfort on the second story; maybe the best espresso in town, but is like walking to the library, extremely quiet and close in Sundays.
The Banter also located in Oak street a block away from Denton Square, good for quick meals, sandwiches are the best, coffee… simply don’t go there.
Art Six located on Scripture Street, two blocks from Fry Street, walking distance to campus, artsy scene, constant art display, gallery looking, fantastic joint to relax and feel like home, bagels are awesome, always affordable.
Overall we have a little of everything, so next time you go for coffee cruise around town instead of using a drive threw.
